This policy covers the Ginga app and gingafit.app. The app does not require an account and we do not operate a server that collects your workout history. The app sends anonymous usage counts to a small service of our own to help us improve it, which you can turn off; see Usage analytics.
Information stored by the app
Ginga stores your workout history, routes, heart rate samples, water logs, body measurements, progress and activity photos, goals, achievements and settings on your device. Recording on Apple Watch transfers workout information to your paired iPhone using Apple's device connectivity services.
Apple Health maintains its own copies of information you choose to read or write through HealthKit. Ginga does not offer its own cloud history service. Copies may also exist in backups you control, exported files or services you choose when sharing. Deleting Ginga does not delete those separate copies.
Permissions and Apple Health
You control permissions in iOS, watchOS and Apple Health. Declining access may prevent the related feature from working, but does not require you to grant unrelated permissions.
| Permission | Purpose |
|---|---|
| Location | Recording outdoor distance, pace and routes, including while a recording continues in the background. |
| Motion and Fitness | Step counting and movement measurements. |
| Health | Reading permitted workouts, heart rate, resting heart rate and heart rate variability (for the readiness reading), energy, distance, steps, water, weight, age and biological sex for fitness displays and estimates; writing recorded workouts, energy, distance, water and weight where supported. |
| Camera and selected photos and videos | Activity photos, optional progress check-ins, and a photo or video you pick as the background of a share. A share video is made on your device. |
| Notifications | Local reminders you enable. |
HealthKit information is used for the app's health and fitness functions, not advertising, marketing profiles or sale. It is not sent to RevenueCat, our analytics service or our website, and nothing worked out from it is either. If you explicitly export or share information, the content you select goes to the destination you choose.
Maps
Apple Maps supplies map content when you use map-based features. Requests for map regions and normal connection information are processed by Apple under Apple's privacy policy. When you choose a destination for directions, the place you search for is sent to Apple Maps to find it, and when a session with directions starts your current location and the destination are sent to Apple Maps to plan the way there, again as you move if you leave the planned route. Apple processes these requests under the same policy. Nothing is searched for or planned unless you choose a destination, and we never receive any of it. The simplified route-only share preset draws the recorded route without downloading a map. A route shape or a shared photo or video can still disclose a location, so check the preview before sharing it.
The share editor leaves the start and the finish of a route off the picture, about 300 metres of each, until you choose to show them; the choice is kept on your device for the next share.
When you add a 3D terrain block to a share picture, the app downloads the heights of the ground around the route from the public Terrain Tiles dataset, which Amazon Web Services hosts as open data. The request names the map tiles covering a few kilometres around the route and carries normal connection information such as your IP address. It does not include the route itself, any account or anything else about you, and we never receive it. The tiles are kept on your device so the same area is not fetched again. Nothing is fetched unless you add a terrain block.
Usage analytics
To decide what to improve, the app counts how it is used and sends those counts to an analytics service we run ourselves. There is no analytics company involved and no analytics code from anybody else in the app. You can turn this off at any time in Settings, under Privacy, and it is described in a line on the second screen of the first launch.
Anonymous usage (on unless you turn it off):
- the app being opened, and which tab or screen is shown;
- which onboarding pages were reached, and whether setup was finished or skipped;
- that a session started or finished, its kind (circuit, beep test, run, walk, ride or other, indoors or out), whether it was completed, whether it was recorded on Apple Watch, and its length as a band such as "15 to 30 minutes";
- that a training programme was started, and which built in programme;
- that a share picture or video was shared, saved, copied or sent to an Instagram story, and which preset or background it was made on, never the picture itself;
- the choices made in the share editor, each as one word from a fixed list: which preset, background or vibe was picked, which kind of part was added or recoloured (for example "distance" or "date"), which style it was given, and whether the start or finish of the route was hidden. Never the words you type into a text part, the colour you pick, the photo, or the numbers on the picture;
- that the subscription screen was shown, a purchase was completed or restored;
- that the app crashed or stopped responding, or an export or import failed, as a count without the report itself.
More detail (its own switch, which only works while anonymous usage is on): how long each onboarding page was on screen as a band, the names of settings you change in Settings (for example "units", never what you set them to), and, once the app suggests training based on how you use it, the broad kind of training you seem to prefer and how often suggestions to upgrade are welcome, each as one word from a fixed list.
With every event the service receives the time it happened and the technical context any app report carries: the app version and build, the iOS version, the device model, and the language and region the phone is set to. To count how many installations use a feature, the app creates a random identifier for its analytics alone, and the service receives it only salted and hashed. It is not your Apple ID, the advertising identifier or anything linked to you, and turning anonymous usage off deletes it, so turning it on again starts afresh.
Events wait on the phone in a small file until they are sent, every few minutes while the app is open and when you leave it. Anything not sent within a week is deleted unsent, and turning anonymous usage off deletes everything still waiting.
Never sent: anything from Apple Health or worked out from it (heart rate, heart rate variability, resting heart rate, heart rate zones, readiness, weight, energy, steps or water), your location or routes, photos, your name, anything you type, or the advertising identifier. Nothing is used to track you across other companies' apps or websites, nothing is sold, and the counts are used only to improve Ginga.
The service runs on Cloudflare, which hosts it for us and stores the counts in its Workers Analytics Engine, on infrastructure that may be outside Australia (see Cloudflare's privacy policy). Like any server on the internet, it necessarily sees your IP address and the app's user agent when the counts arrive. Our service uses the address only for a moment, to stop any one connection sending too much, and never stores or logs either of them, and it refuses anything that is not one of the events listed above. The counts are deleted automatically after three months.
Before they go, they are added up into daily totals, such as how many installations were active on a day or how many runs were finished, which we keep in Cloudflare's D1 database for as long as they are useful. The totals contain no installation identifier, no IP address and nothing about any one person: only how many of each thing happened on each day. Builds without an analytics address, including anything built from source, send nothing.
Purchases
When in-app purchases are enabled, Apple processes transactions and RevenueCat helps determine which features an installation can access. RevenueCat may process an app-generated identifier, transaction and entitlement information, and technical app/device information when the purchase service is initialized, when offerings load, or when purchases are restored, even if you do not buy.
We do not send RevenueCat your workout history, HealthKit samples, routes, photos or support correspondence. Apple and RevenueCat may retain transaction records under their own policies. See RevenueCat's privacy policy. Test builds may use a test purchase environment. Builds with the purchase service disabled do not initialize it.
Diagnostics and support
The app stores a limited set of local diagnostic reports to help investigate problems. It does not automatically upload those local files to our server. While anonymous usage is on, it sends only the fact that a crash or a hang happened, as described under Usage analytics. Apple may separately collect or make crash and performance information available according to your Apple analytics settings.
If you turn on Motion recording in Settings, which is off unless you do, the app also saves files for each cardio session with the raw readings it uses to tell walking, running and cycling apart: your location and route with their accuracy, speed and course, step count, cadence and pace, floors climbed, barometric altitude and pressure, the device's accelerometer, gyroscope and orientation readings, its motion activity estimates, heart rate, and any labels or corrections you add. Your iPhone records one file and, if you are wearing an Apple Watch with Ginga, the watch records its own, which it sends to your iPhone over Apple's device connectivity services after the session. The files are kept on your devices, the oldest are deleted automatically, and you can delete them at any time from the same screen. They are never sent to us or to anyone else by the app. A file leaves your iPhone only if you share it yourself.
If you email us or voluntarily send a diagnostic file, we receive your address, message and attachments. Please send only what is needed and remove health, route or other sensitive details you do not want to disclose. We use this information to respond, resolve problems and meet legal obligations, and retain it only as long as reasonably necessary for those purposes. Email providers may process and store correspondence outside Australia.
This website
gingafit.app is hosted by Cloudflare. Delivering and securing the site involves processing connection information such as IP addresses, requested URLs, request times and browser/device information. Cloudflare may process this information on infrastructure outside Australia. See Cloudflare's privacy policy.
The site's source does not include advertising trackers, analytics scripts or a workout-data upload form. Visiting the website does not give it access to your Apple Health or Ginga history.
Your choices and rights
- Export your history from Settings if you want a copy. Treat exported files as sensitive and choose their destination carefully.
- Delete individual entries or use the app's erase-data control. Deleting the app removes its local container, not copies in Health, on another device, in backups or previously shared with others.
- Manage Health permissions and delete Health records through Apple Health.
- Turn anonymous usage, or only its extra detail, off in Settings under Privacy. Nothing more is sent from that moment.
- Manage notifications, location, camera and other permissions through device settings.
- Contact us to ask about access, correction or deletion of information we actually hold, such as support correspondence. Applicable legal rights are not limited by this policy.
We do not sell personal information or use workout data for targeted advertising. We take reasonable steps to protect support information, but no storage or transmission method can be guaranteed completely secure.
Children
Ginga is a general fitness app, not a service designed to collect information from children. If you believe a child has sent us personal information, contact us so we can review and address it.
Questions and complaints
Contact hello@gingafit.app with privacy questions or complaints. We will review your request and respond within a reasonable period. If you are in Australia, you may also contact the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner. Other rights and complaint avenues may apply where you live.
Changes
We update this policy when the app, website or our handling of information changes. The date above identifies the current version. Material changes will be communicated through appropriate app, website or release notices.
